About Pledge the Pink

Starting off as a small local charity race in South Carolina, Pledge the Pink, has grown into a massive breast cancer event that has inspired nearly 15,000 participants to join the cause. Over the years, this event has raised over a million dollars, which is used to provide gap funding for heroic nonprofit service providers through the Pledge the Pink Foundation. With these funds, the foundation can cut through red tape and support organizations that are making a real difference in the fight against breast cancer. This event will be taking place from Thursday, October 17th to Sunday, October 20th, 2024.

Schedule of Events

The event kicks off on Thursday with the Survivor & Thriver Luncheon, held from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at The Ritz-Carlton. 2024 Courses

Friday

Participants will be starting at 8:00 am from 4600 Peter’s Point Road, on a four-mile stretch along the beach, with pit stops at mile 2 and mile 4 along the way. Exiting the beach, the route transitions onto the Amelia path system, allowing participants to appreciate the beauty of Burney Park and the historic American Beach neighborhoods. With four miles on the beach and the remaining six miles along pathways and quiet streets, this course offers a delightful blend of natural splendor and island charm.

Saturday

Participants will gather at Main Beach Park, to dive into the serene northern end of Amelia Island. Starting with a leisurely stroll through charming beachfront bungalows, sandy roads, and ancient sand dunes, participants will enter the beach at mile 1.75, where a pit stop awaits. The journey continues on the beach for approximately three miles before transitioning to trails and quiet roads. As participants reach the milestone of mile 4.75, the historic Fort becomes a significant landmark, complete with another pit stop. The final stretch includes traversing through shade-covered trails adorned with majestic oak trees before reaching the last pit stop near the beautiful butterfly walking trail.

Sunday

The Sunday Funday Adventure, with a 7:30 am start from Main Beach, promises participants the most varied and exciting route of all. Beginning with a brief 0.6-mile stretch on the beach, participants will then journey through marshes, historic neighborhoods, and even downtown Fernandina Beach. A visit to downtown Fernandina Beach would not be complete without indulging in an ice cream or picking up a souvenir. After leaving downtown, participants will pass by the enormous port and paper mill industrial area, immersing themselves in the contrasts of Amelia Island’s landscape.

As participants continue to discover the island’s treasures, they will explore the shaded and surprisingly hilly neighborhood surrounding the historic lighthouse before finally returning to the park for the finish line celebration, lunch, and an unforgettable after-party. You can also plan for a celebratory Sunday brunch to close out the weekend at these incredible Amelia Island brunch spots.

Prepare Ahead

To ensure you are fully prepared for the unique terrain and distances of Pledge the Pink, we have some helpful tips. To acclimate to the hard-packed sand, we recommend training on nature trails or gravel roads if beaches are not accessible. Each day’s route covers approximately 10 miles, so adjust your training accordingly. If you anticipate needing shortcuts, aim to comfortably complete around 6 miles per day. Keep in mind that you’ll have four hours to complete each day’s course, and if necessary, we will reroute you to the nearest shortcut to ensure your safety and enjoyment. These preparation tips will help you make the most of your remarkable experience at Pledge the Pink Amelia Island.
