Sunny beaches, colorful umbrellas, and fresh seafood are synonymous with life on Amelia Island. But fun in the sun is just a slice of island life. Rich in history and culture, the island’s storied past and burgeoning art scene are well celebrated.
History buffs will appreciate the Amelia Island Museum of History, which includes a guide-led tour through the island’s storied history, and the Shrimping Museum, which will educate visitors on why this small barrier island community is known as the “birthplace of the modern shrimping industry.”
Fine art lovers will appreciate the Plantation Artists’ Guild and Gallery, a co-op gallery where 40 local artists display their work. The Amelia Island Dance Festival, held annually in September, is another artistic endeavor you won’t want to miss.
The local theater is a pillar of the island’s artistic community, with regular performances and musical performances that will touch and inspire awe in those who witness them.
Located in the heart of Fernandina Beach, the theater is close to dining, shopping, and Amelia Island vacation rentals, making it the perfect spot for a date night or evening on the town with the whole family.
There’s a plethora of things to do on Amelia Island, but be sure to catch a show at Amelia Community Theatre while vacationing on our sunny shores.
About Amelia Community Theatre
In its four decades of operation, Amelia Community Theatre has been a pillar of the island’s community, staging artistic performances year-round a stone’s throw from our rentals in Amelia Island.
An unforgettable, emotional experience is what the non-profit organization strives to give every spectator with each of its productions.
In the theater’s first ten years, actors performed on the stage of the Fernandina Beach High School auditorium until a vacant school board building was purchased and renovated in time for the 1992-93 season.
The building, now called Studio 209, quickly began to draw “near-capacity audiences for every performance,” their website reads. So, in the early 2000s, the theater began to fundraise for a new 170-seat auditorium now called the Main Stage.
Amelia Community Theatre relies on donors and community sponsors, as well as a host of dedicated volunteers, to stage its many annual performances, including plays and live music.
2023-2024 Upcoming Shows
From comedies to murder mysteries and everything in between, a play on the Amelia Community Theatre’s main stage is a great way to spend an evening on the island. The community serves up delightful local theater throughout the year, as well as occasional music events. Check the rating for each play online, as some may not be suited for younger children.
