The History of Golf on Amelia Island

Golf has a rich and colorful history, with many claiming that golf got its start around 1261-1297. It was then documented in 1457 by the Scottish Parliament. On Amelia Island, however, many community leaders designated Northeast Florida as a hub for golf. The beautiful weather, scenic views, and cooler temperatures made Amelia Island the perfect place for golf to call home. Amelia Island has since developed a rich golf culture. While the organization is based in St. Augustine, Florida, Florida’s First Coast of Golf non-profit organization has helped create the golf identity in Amelia Island. They have created a community for everyone to be able to come down to Amelia Island and enjoy the sport of golf.
