Annual Memorial Day Events on Amelia Island: Friday

Serious golfers will want to book their Memorial Day accommodations on Amelia Island early, as the 12th Annual St. Michael Academy Golf Classic 2016 has check-in beginning Friday at 10:30 am, and the shotgun start will be at 12:30 pm. Proper attire is required, and there is a registration fee of $175 for each golfer.

For those who prefer something spooky, Amelia Island offers a one-hour Ghost Tour on Friday, from 6 pm to midnight. Beginning in the cemetery behind St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, you will hear skillfully-told ghost stories as you walk through the dark streets from which they were inspired. Tickets can be purchased at $10 for adults and $5 for children.

Memorial Day on Amelia Island

On Friday and Saturday night at 5:30 pm there is a two-hour walking tour through the heart of historic downtown Fernandina Beach, where you will experience the art of mixed drinks. While stopping at four bars, learn the unique history of each while the bartender whips up a special cocktail.

The mixology tours close their registration two hours prior to the start, and tickets cost $45 for adults 21 and over with ID. Events Planned Typically for Saturday

Are you in the mood for a long morning stroll? You will want to sign up now for the Amelia Island Walk! Beginning Saturday at 8 am, you can choose to join the walk for 5, 10, or 15 miles. In addition to a couple of rest stops, at every mile, there will be a brief pause to take in the natural sights and sounds. Prior sign-up and $25 are required, and registration concludes 11 pm this Saturday, May 14th. The proceeds from this event go towards the Amelia Tree Conservancy.

At 10:30 am, meet Chef Bill from the Amelia Island Culinary Academy for a walk through Fernandina’s Farmer’s Market, which is close to many of the available Amelia Island vacation rentals. Learn how to shop for local produce like a chef, then head back to the academy to enjoy a cooking class using fresh ingredients from the market. Chef Bill will teach you how to bring out natural flavors of locally grown produce in inspired dishes. This all-ages event is $40 per person.
